Small Beneath the Sky

Posted on June 8, 2024November 9, 2024 by Linda

Small Beneath the Sky: A Prairie Memoir is the name of a book written by Saskatchewan author, Lorna Crozier. It has a home on my bookshelf. I recommend it.

How can one feel anything but small when standing beneath the endless Saskatchewan sky? It is where I feel most at home. It’s where I breathe deep. I love the feeling of completeness that falls upon me when I stand silent and small on the prairie.

Gerry and I take an afternoon drive and I stand on the side of prairie roads where I have spied something from my passenger seat in our Escape and demanded that he “stop!” so I can try to capture the feeling with a photo taken with my big girl camera.

My hair whips my face in the warm prairie wind. The title of Crozier’s book dances in my mind. I adjust the settings on my camera and shoot; readjust, and shoot again. Turn in another direction and repeat the process. Nothing but content in the moment.

Some say there’s nothing to look at on the prairie. I help but see magic wherever I look.

Hi, I’m Linda Hoye. Welcome! I live in Saskatchewan, Canada with my husband and our Yorkie, Molly. Retired from my corporate career, I appreciate having time and opportunity to fill my days with things that nourish my soul and spirit like writing. watercolour painting, reading, gardening, and blogging about the simple joys of every day. I’ve been blogging since 2008, starting fresh here in 2022 when we moved home to Saskatchewan. May this space be a sanctuary in a very noisy world. 😊
