Wednesday Hodgepodge – June 17

Posted on June 17, 2026 by Linda

Joining with Joyce and the Hodgepodge gang today answering this eclectic set of questions. Here we go!

1. June 17th, 1994 was the day of the infamous O.J. Simpson car chase. What were you doing in 1994?

That year was, with a doubt, the most difficult one of my life. I had just left my marriage, was dealing with two teenagers who were also struggling, and battling depression. While I’m sure I was aware of this event, in no way was it anywhere near the top of my list of concerns.

2. What’s your favorite summer salad that isn’t the traditional tossed green lettuce kind of salad? Do you like fresh fruit in a salad (other than in a fruit salad of course)?

We really like a pasta salad made with peppers, feta, and Zesty Italian salad dressing. (I’d like to add olives, but hubby can’t stand them.) We also like a quinoa salad I make with cucumber and other things I’m not remembering at the moment. The dressing is OJ, EVOO, and ACV. Love to add fresh berries to a green salad when they’re available.

3. Is chivalry dead? Should it be?

Depends on your take on what chivalry means, I guess. I still think there are many chivalrous men in the world. My husband, for one. And I see chivalrous characteristics being demonstrated by my granddaughter’s boyfriend as well. My take? Chivalry is alive and well and thank goodness for it.

4. Would you rather spend a week of your summer vacation in Hawaii or Alaska? Have you ever been to either? Are they two places you really would like to see? How do you feel about ‘Hawaiian pizza’ aka pineapple on a pizza? Have you ever eaten Baked Alaska?

Neither. Have never been, and have no desire to go to either place. I’d rather spend my summer vacation in my backyard garden. Hawaiian pizza is my favourite (it was “invented” by a Canadian, after all!). I’ve never had baked Alaska.

5. World Cup play is happening now…are you interested? Watching any matches? Did you or your children play soccer/futbol? There are eleven US cities hosting matches-Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York with the stadium in NJ, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle along with  three cities in Mexico (Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey) and two in Canada (Toronto and Vancouver)- You get free tickets to one of these matches. Which city do you choose? Tell us why.

I choose . . . none of them. I’m not a soccer fan and would lose my ever loving mind attending a match with the crowd and the noise. No. Thank. You. If the free tickets included travel, I’d hop a plane and head to Vancouver, B.C. for a couple of days and donate the tickets to someone far more appreciative of them then me.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I’m so enjoying these beautiful mid to late-June days in the garden watching the miracles unfold. Here’s a photo I just took of our little backyard paradise.
